Matt (Audacity)

SPB: As a California band, what do you think of winter touring?

Matt: Touring in winter can be very exciting. People appreciate the fact that you drive through bad conditions to hang out and play with other bands. That being said, we have been stuck in -33 degree weather in the middle of Montana for 2 days, which is a different kind of excitement. Make sure you are prepared to be stuck by having beer and snacks handy at all times!

Audacity just released a new record, Butter Knife, on Suicide Squeeze this fall, following last year’s Mellow Cruisers (Recess Records). The band first formed when members Kyle and Matt were just 14 years-old and they’ve been playing garage rock with a pop sheen ever since. Scene Point Blank contacted bassist … Read more

Butter Knife
Suicide Squeeze (2013)

It didn’t take long for Mellow Cruisers to appeal. Butter Knives, the follow-up from California’s Audacity, though, seems to be more of a grower.A band quick-summed-up as power-pop (though that description lacks), the new record seems to miss that one-two punch, earworm aspect. Instead, the songs are a bit more complex, less predictable, and more varied from starter “Couldn’t Hold … Read more

Mellow Cruisers
Recess (2012)

It’s not very often I’ll say a song belongs on the radio and mean that in a good way. With the whispered beginnings to “Garza” on Audacity’s Mellow Cruisers, the song starts with a surf-whisper that builds into an uber-catchy song with rise and fall, singalong choruses and a rhythm section that pulls the listener in and pummels through 3:01 … Read more

Mike Assatly (Unseemlier - guitar/vocals) SPB: Do you have a preferred model of van for touring? Assatly: Chevy G-20 Gladiator! It was my first van, I got it from my uncle with 115,000 on it. He got rid of it for a new van because it was "old" and would … Read more

Dave Slaverave (Dollar Store - bass) SPB: This band hits a lot of styles, all kind of overlapping at the same time. How hard was it to find “your sound” when bringing these influences together? Slaverave: Not very hard at all actually. We're all old-ass adults who've soaked in a … Read more

One Question Interviews • June 25, 2025

Matt (Golden Shitters) How nervous were you the first time you played a show? My first show was around 2002. I was 15 years old and it was a basement house party in my hometown of Welland, Ontario. I’d just proved myself to my high school buddies by singing The … Read more
