Matt (Audacity)

SPB: As a California band, what do you think of winter touring?

Matt: Touring in winter can be very exciting. People appreciate the fact that you drive through bad conditions to hang out and play with other bands. That being said, we have been stuck in -33 degree weather in the middle of Montana for 2 days, which is a different kind of excitement. Make sure you are prepared to be stuck by having beer and snacks handy at all times!

The band first formed when members Kyle and Matt were just 14 years-old and they’ve been playing garage rock with a pop sheen ever since. Scene Point Blank contacted bassist … Read more

Butter Knife
Suicide Squeeze (2013)

It didn’t take long for Mellow Cruisers to appeal. Butter Knives, the follow-up from California’s Audacity, though, seems to be more of a grower.A band quick-summed-up as power-pop (though that description lacks), the new record seems to miss that one-two punch, earworm aspect. Instead, the songs are a bit more complex, less predictable, and more varied from starter “Couldn’t Hold … Read more

Mellow Cruisers
Recess (2012)

It’s not very often I’ll say a song belongs on the radio and mean that in a good way. With the whispered beginnings to “Garza” on Audacity’s Mellow Cruisers, the song starts with a surf-whisper that builds into an uber-catchy song with rise and fall, singalong choruses and a rhythm section that pulls the listener in and pummels through 3:01 … Read more

Tommy Colliton (Curse Words) SPB: What is the most tiresome stereotype about punk rock? Colliton: I find one of the most tiresome stereotypes would be that punk has to be yelling angry, aggressive lyrics. While there’s plenty to be pissed off about and it’s rather cathartic yelling along in a … Read more

David Jarnstrom (Rad Owl) SPB: What was the inspiration in starting this band? A midlife crisis? Jarnstrom: In all seriousness, Rad Owl was a bit of a nostalgia trip at first. We were childhood friends who had grown up discovering metal and punk rock and hardcore together in the late … Read more
