18 Slashes

SPB: Was there an album or song (or, more generally, a “sound”) that inspired you to begin 18 Slashes?

18 Slashes: That's a very good question. There is a raft of albums that inspire the sound but also there is generally a yearning for a specific sound I listened to in the ‘90s that sorta no longer exists. It's that combination of ambient techno like FSOL and Orbital, stadium house like The KLF and the early drum and bass/jungle stylings of LTJ Bukem and Bailey (Intelligent Drum And Bass is still such a vital album), stuff that you would hear on MTV randomly on Saturday at 3 AM (eternal) or that would make the soundtrack of a game of the era, Because of the nature of the project this also gets twisted in terms of the work I do remixing where I add a lot more of a digital hardcore (Mad Capsule Markets, ATR, AA=) influence.
