Ethan McCarthy (Clinging to the Trees of a Forest Fire (CTTTOAFF))
What are your top five albums that were released in 2011? (in order 1-5)
- Disma (Towards the Megalith)
- Elitist (Fear in a Handful of Dust)
- Burials (Self titled LP)
- The Body/Braveyoung collaboration record (Nothing Passes)
- Ken Mode (Venerable)
What band did you discover in 2011 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
Chelsea Wolfe. She put out a record called Apokalypsis on Pendu Recordings this year. It is super dark and depressing. I haven't stopped listening to it since I heard it back in June.
How will you remember 2011 (in terms of music)?
I'll remember that it was a busy year for CTTTOAFF and for a bunch of our friends that are also in bands. We put out 2 records this year, Dark Castle, Elitist, KEN mode, The Body, Brave Young, Ritual Necromancy, Burials, and Maruta also had releases.
What can we look forward to from you in 2012?
We are writing material for another full length so hopefully those songs will see the light of day next year. We are also touring down south/midwest/east coast in March as well as trying to fit in a european tour and another U.S. tour in 2012.
What records are you looking forward to most in 2012?
I heard that there was supposed to be a new INCANTATION but other then that i'm not sure of anything else coming out next year.
What did you expect to be huge in 2011 which never made it?
Well, most of the music I listen to is pretty hard to digest so I don't normally expect for bands to be "huge." There are so many great hardworking bands that put out amazing records, but have shitty promotion from their labels or go on tour to have shitty shows that more people should be at. So I find it difficult to answer that question by just picking one band or album.
