it would be perfectly simple to couple Nothing into the wave of modern shoegaze and close the book. They carry certain trademarks that point towards them owing their guitar sound and then some to Slowdive. This would show an immense degree of short sightedness. While it is clear what band their pedal board choices could be attributed to Nothing have created something very much their own.

Guilty of Everything is very much a love letter of sorts to desperation and depression. Not the depression that comes from a breakup more so the depression that comes from being a fuck up. While it wouldn't necessarily be clear from the lilting vocals of Domenic or the moments when the guitars kick in just enough to overpower the mix there is more punk rock in these songs than most bands you could name.

The songs are generally very clearly indebted to first wave shoegaze (Slowdive, MBV, etc.) but at times shows the more alternative rock melodies of say The Smashing Pumpkins. When Nothing truly shines is when everything feels on the edge of collapse like a great hardcore band.

While much of their press clippings will note on Domenic's past (particularly a certain deathwish band) they generally fail to find the similarities between his past and his present (musically). Where Nothing excel is in sharing a genuine sense of pain and urgency without letting the music have to identify with that.

Tired Of Tomorrow
Relapse (2016)

A relatively new band, started releasing music around 2010, Nothing display a strong grasp to alternative rock. Their debut album, Guilty of Everything, conjured and presented in great fashion elements such as shoegaze haze and alt-rock grooves, introducing the musical endeavors of the band, but it felt that there was still some way to go for Nothing to achieve their … Read more

The Great Dismal
Relapse (2020)

It’s strange, how the metal scene embraces certain genres as one of its own, enabling said genre to become “metal adjacent” and enjoy a somewhat wider audience in the long-term. Genres such as synthwave, shoegaze or dreampop, post-punk – all have a solid following from fans of much more extreme music and there’s surely an interesting study within that somewhere, … Read more
