Ancient Sky is a fairly new group of individuals with impressive musical resumes with members having performed in City of Caterpillar, Darkest Hour, and Majority Rule, among others. This is their seven-song, self-titled debut.
Musically, Ancient Sky shows little influence from the members other projects. In fact, my listing them may have done you a disservice because you might be expecting some kind of a noisy, screamo-influenced, post-hardcore sound. You won't find that here. Instead, songs like "Another Woman" and "True Patron" are psychedelic stoner rock influenced jams that bring to mind groups like Black Sabbath, Dead Meadow, and Om. The group incorporates a fair amount of vintage organs as well, which recalls The Doors. Also sprinkled through is the faint influence of the delicacies of the post-hardcore world.
I definitely wasn't expecting the music that I heard on Ancient Sky based on the members other musical output. As a result, I think I was a bit under whelmed by what I did hear. I can't fault them for that though; they're just artists creating music.
